True Grit (2010)
110 min  -  Adventure | Drama | Western  -  22 December 2010 (USA)

Directors: Ethan CoenJoel Coen
Writers: Joel Coen (screenplay), Ethan Coen (screenplay),and 1 more credit »
Stars: Jeff BridgesMatt Damon and Hailee Steinfeld

I did not see the original, but i can say that with virgin eyes to this sad story; It is a good watch.

There's a reason Hailee Steinfeld is the star of this movie and you'll learn that not 15 minutes into the film. She absolutely steals this movie away from big names; Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, and Barry Pepper.

True Grit is a dialogue film. Limited action and alot of talking. BUT the script is fantastic. The stories and one-liners that Jeff Bridges spout are entertaining and his quarrels with Matt Damon are a riot. Josh Brolin has a small but monumental role in the eyes of Hailee Steinfeld's character.

True Grit follows the daughter of a murdered man. The daughter will stop at nothing to see her father's killer punished. She hires two men of grit and pursue said murderer.

+ Well wrote script
+ Iconic characters
- Every character has a speech impediment (get those subtitles ready)
_ Less action than most Westerns
? Could be a great Father/Daughter film

I give True Grit 4/5 stars. Its a fine film made by two great directors.

Black Swan (2010)
108 min  -  Drama | Thriller   -  17 December 2010 (USA)

A ballet dancer wins the lead in "Swan Lake" and is perfect for the role of the delicate White Swan, but slowly loses her mind as she becomes more and more like the evil twin sister of the White Swan, the Black Swan.

Director: Darren Aronofsky
Writers: Mark Heyman (screenplay), Andres Heinz(screenplay), and 2 more credits »
Stars: Natalie PortmanMila Kunis and Vincent Cassel

Black Swan is an addictive drama that hold your attention from beginning to end.
The story follows Natalia Portman's character as she trys to achieve the lead role in Swan Lake. Her journey is rough and she begins to lose her mind.

The plot and actual screenplay is great and a literal take on the famous ballet. Portman's character has ups and downs but her tragic story is one that is very entertaining to watch.

The cast was perfect; just the right amount of sexy, cool, smart, scary, and emotional. Natalie Portman should definately get a nomination or three for her role as both the fragile innocent White Swan and the seductive temptress Black Swan.

From the trailer most people can sense a bit of sci-fi in the plot but I wont ruin anything for you viewers. Just know that what you see will stick with you.

From a guy's point-of-view the sex scene and the kissing between Mila Kunis and Natlie Portman are definately a plus, BUT its not useless "T&A;" the scenes have a purpose and it reflects the overall change in Natalie Portman's character.

Darren Aronofsky is becoming one of my favorite directors.

Black Swan gets a confident 4/5 stars.

+ Story
+ Cast/ Acting
+ Cringe-inducing sound effects and visuals
+ Lesbian Action
+ The Art of Ballet
- Awkward "stalkerish" camera work in some scenes that may be dizzying

The Tourist (2010)
103 min  -  Action | Drama | Thriller  -  10 December 2010 (USA)

Revolves around Frank, an American tourist visiting Italy to mend a broken heart. Elise is an extraordinary woman who deliberately crosses his path.

Director: Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck
Writers: Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (screenplay),Christopher McQuarrie (screenplay)
Stars: Johnny DeppAngelina Jolie and Paul Bettany

Disappointed. Thats how I feel. Waiting months for this movie and all I receive is a boring 103minute long gallivant across Venice. I'm curious as to why Depp and Jolie chose this melodrama C grade spy flop.
I might be a tad harsh, but this film started slow and ended with an over-do twist that you saw coming from the trailer. The film does have a good chemistry between pretty faces Depp and Jolie, but that is all the movie has. This movie barely deserves a watch, seeing how i was surfing around facebook while it played in the background.
Johnny Depp's comedic timing is entertaining but the lack of action and interest really shut the movie down.
I give The Tourist 1 star.
