Konami has promoted Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima to the position of vice president, corporate officer.

The developer's new position will take effect on April 1, and comes as part of a round of new appointments at the company.

Konami's current operating officer, Shinji Enomoto, is promoted into the same position as Kojima, as the firm names three new directors: Mineaki Yoshiba, Yasuyuki Yamaji and Kazuyuki Kisohara.

With Kojima's work history there is no doubt that Konami made the right choice. Lets hope to continue to see great grade-A games from them.

I for one am not a handheld fan and after ten seconds of playing the 3DS my eyes started to hurt and the gaming system gave me a headache. So from personal experience I'm going to stay away from this one.

[UPDATE]
UK chancellor George Osborne has confirmed in today’s budget that R&D tax credits are to rise by 200 percent.

The increase will take affect from next month, with it increasing to 225 percent in 2012.

The raise is a 35 percent increase, is in line with recommendations made by development organisation TIGA and is backed by Labour.

The government of the United Kingdom is to hold a consultation on closing a tax loophole that allows online stores like Play, Amazon, and other major online stores to sell products, including games, at a major discount by being based in Jersey.

As of right now, major retailers including Amazon, Play, The Hut, Tesco Direct and HMV run their online operations from an area of Jersey which is free of VAT, meaning they can cut 20% off the retail price right out of the gate.

The loophole only applies to items under £18.

The end result is cheaper games and hardware online, but also means that the government loses out on billions of pounds in tax revenue.

Speaking in parliament as part of today’s budget, Chancellor George Osborne announced that the government will consult on the issue this May with an aim of countering “the continued marketing and use of highly aggressive and artificial tax avoidance schemes”.

If that happens, there’s a significant chance that the prices of games online could rise as retailers struggle to maintain profit margins.

Akira, directed by Albert Hughes, will be the live-action remake of the highly acclaimed six-volume graphic novel of the same name written by anime artist Katsuhiro Otomo. Filming is said to be starting this August.

According to Sources here are the front-runners for the main roles.

With everything in me, what the fuck is the casting director doing? All of these actors have had some good roles, for better or for worse. But Akira is set in futuristic Pre/post apocalyptic Japan. None of these actors fit the area...at all. Ever since I heard Akira would be remade period I cringed and I had a feeling, and still do, that it will flop and curse all of its die-hard fans.

I'm surprised with all the popular names on this list Alex Pettyfer isnt mentioned. Most of the actors are getting roles just because they're a hot commodity.

Good luck Albert Hughes.

In the game's first teaser trailer, we meet Killian Samuels (cool name) a sky cop aboard a plane as aliens attack. According to the newest issue of Game Reactor (via NeoGAF), Samuels is a sheriff and prison guard, though neither title explains the bizarre glowing electronics in the middle of his forehead.

According to sources Killian will be free-running and front-flipping around the game's large areas to murder enemies and traverse the map. Not to mention the ability to stealthily assassinate targets from the shadows. The game supposedly won't have any multiplayer, motion, or 3D support, and is said to be open-ended in terms of structure. Also, crucially, Game Reactor's interview with developer Human Head promises a wide variety of the game's iconic door ... things. And no, we refuse to explain that last bit any further.

I posted yesterday that Joseph Gordon Levitt was playing Alberto Falcone in Batman: The Dark Knight Rises. That information has come up busted and the rumors and speculation of who JGL will play are still alive and kicking...

In the Gavin O'Connor-directed action drama, opening September 9, two brothers face the fight of a lifetime – and the wreckage of their broken family – within the brutal, high-stakes world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighting.

An ex-Marine haunted by a tragic past, Tommy Riordan returns to his hometown of Pittsburgh and enlists his father, a recovered alcoholic and his former coach, to train him for an MMA tournament awarding the biggest purse in the history of the sport. As Tommy blazes a violent path towards the title prize, his brother, Brendan, a former MMA fighter unable to make ends meet as a public school teacher, returns to the amateur ring to provide for his family. Even though years have passed, recriminations and past betrayals keep Brendan bitterly estranged from both Tommy and his father.

But when Brendan's unlikely rise as an underdog sets him on a collision course with Tommy, the two brothers must finally confront the forces that tore them apart, all the while waging the most intense, winner-takes-all battle of their lives.
