Dirty BombIf you read a week ago on ThePauseMenu that Splash Damage was going to reveal a new game then you already know about the news. Now for the details: Splash Damage's new game is a PC FPS called "Dirty Bomb." At first glance this announcement made me upset; most of Hollywood's remakes are rubbish and in relation to the original(s) it just doesn't match up. I.E. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (The Millennium Trilogy), The Eye, Let the Right One In (Let Me In), Quarantine (REC), The Grudge (Ju-On), etc etc. Park Chan-Wook is one of my favorite directors for films like Oldboy, which is well underway in its remake production directed by Spike Lee and starring Josh Brolin, and I Saw the Devil. Now Sympathy for Lady Vengeance is being remade with Charlize Theron starring. For those unfamiliar with the original, Lady Vengeance “is the story of a woman who for reasons of her own completes a prison term for a murder she did not commit, reemerging to punish the killer, and avenge the dead.” The film is the final chapter in Park’s “Vengeance Trilogy” following Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Oldboy. While Oldboy is my favorite of the three, Lady Vengeance is a close second. Theron is a strong choice for the lead role, and I’m curious to see what Oscar-winner William Monahan (The Departed) will do with the script. The press release says he’s “adapting” the original, but that could mean he’ll serve as both writer and director or as the writer only. He previously directed London Boulevard and will next direct Mojave. Sympathy for Lady Vengeance is a great film that showcases the lead actress and her determination for revenge. Great film. Lets hope Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance doesn't get remade; that is by far the oddest of the trilogy and frankly not worthy of remaking. Here’s the press release: The writing team of Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan are at work on a big screen adaptation of the God of War video game series. The duo were brought in to overhaul a screenplay by David Self. While they have to keep mum about story specifics, they were able to discuss how God of War will be different from similarly-themed films like the Clash of the Titans films and Immortals. "Those movies can inform the God of War to step in a more bold direction," said Dunstan. "Not to join those ranks, but to stand head and shoulders apart like other reinventions have done within that genre. The satisfying element is to look at those movies as a commentary on the genre and now say something different." With a New Look, $99.99 Wii Mini Offers an Amazing Value for the Holidays
After nearly 100 million sold worldwide, Nintendo's Wii console is getting a new look and a new price. On Dec. 7, the new Wii Mini home console launches in Canada at a suggested retail price of just $99.99 and puts the focus squarely on Wii games. The system can play more than 1,400 disc-based Wii games. Wii Mini is smaller than the original Wii system, and comes in matte black with a red border. The system comes with a red Wii Remote Plus, a red Nunchuk controller and works with most Wii accessories. "There are games in the Wii library for every type of player," said Ron Bertram, Nintendo of Canada's vice president and general manager. "Wii Mini is a great gift for the holidays that brings everyone in the family together to play. Wii Mini has a mini price, but it's all about big fun." Wii Mini is designed exclusively to play Wii games. Its family-friendly design has no Internet capabilities and does not play Nintendo GameCube games. It's a great value for first-time Wii owners who just want to jump in and experience all the great Wii games that helped usher in a revolution in motion-controlled gaming. Wii games are available at a variety of price points for every kind of shopper Wii Mini is available exclusively in Canada during the holiday season. No information is available about its potential availability in other territories in the future. ● Xbox 360 sold more than 750,000 consoles in the U.S. alone –exceeding internal forecasts. ● Three month Xbox LIVE Gold Subscription sales increased more than 50 percent compared to last year’s Black Friday week. ● We saw incredible activity on Xbox over the weekend. For example, on Sunday alone we had more than 14 million people on Xbox LIVE across the world, racking up more than 72 million hours of use in just one day. ● Compared to 2011, we’ve seen a 43 percent increase in U.S. entertainment application hours logged on Xbox LIVE during the week of Black Friday. It was just under a year ago that horror anthology V/H/S caused a stir at Sundance, the high profile project leaving audiences buzzing. At least the ones who didn't faint. And now the producers behind that project are at it again with a new anthology titled S-VHS.
As previously reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the directors this time out include Gareth Evans (The Raid) co-directing with Timo Tjahjanto (Macabre); Eduardo Sanchez (The Blair Witch Project) co-directing with his long time producer Greg Hale; Jason Eisener (Hobo With A Shotgun); Adam Wingard (You're Next) and writer Simon Barrett making his directorial debut. It's been long rumored that these iconic actors would reprise their roles as the infamous duo turned enemies. Now it is confirmed that Brian Singer's "X-Men: Days of Future Past" will feature Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, and Nicholas Hoult. Scheduled for release on July 18, 2014, X-Men: Days of Future Past boasts a script by Simon Kinberg and is said to be inspired Chris Claremont and John Byrne's comic book storyline that ran in Uncanny X-Men #141 and 142 back in 1981. "Days of Future Past" introduced the idea of an alternate future for Marvel's mutants that grew out of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants killing an important senator, leading to a future where all mutants are hunted by Sentinels.
Although not yet officially listed, Singer's "more to come" is likely to also include Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. In addition to playing a key role in the comic book version of the story, Wolverine has appeared in every live-action X-Men film to date and will star in his second solo adventure with the July 26 release The Wolverine. French software publisher Anuman Interactive has announced a deal with author Benoit Sokal and confirmed that the game "Syberia III" will be created. More than three years after acquiring Microïds and few days after unveiling the future "Dracula: the Shadow of the Dragon", software publisher Anuman Interactive has announced a piece of news that video game enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting: the "Syberia III" project is underway, with Benoit Sokal, who wrote the first two Syberia, and Elliot Grassiano, the founder of Microïds, heading it up. Benoit Sokal has just signed a deal with Anuman Interactive to write the script of "Syberia III" for 2013, while Elliot Grassiano will oversee, as Vice President of Microïds Unit, the development of new publications under the Microïds label. Anuman Interactive has taken yet another step forward in its determination to become one of the main international names in adventure games. “After two long years of waiting for the fans, with Benoit writing the script and Elliot joining our team, “Syberia” has truly entered its production phase. With its incredible feel and the sheer quality of the game, Syberia has carved out a special place for itself in gamers’ hearts. They are more than ever expecting the next instalment. Today, fans of the series and adventure games enthusiasts have at last been rewarded for the patience,” says Anuman’s General Manager, Stéphane Longeard. Benoit Sokal, who is working as Artistic Director on the Syberia saga, adds : “I’m very pleased to be creating another Kate Walker adventure and working with Anuman Interactive’s teams on the project. I created the first two episodes of Syberia with Elliot, so I’m also really happy to be able to create this new one with him and illustrate the evolution of Anuman as a significant player in the adventure games industry.”
"Syberia III" is a multiplatform game scheduled for release in 2014-2015. |
