Video games help reduce crime rates in the United States, according to new research conducted by the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim, the Baylor University and the University of Texas at Arlington. According to research video games reduce crime rates because they keep "potential criminal offenders" busy using their computers or gaming consoles. The study analyzed the effect of both violent and non-violent video games on the number of violent and non-violent crimes in the United States. Video games reduce violence by drawing "potentially violent criminals" to an environment that is less volatile; living rooms screens. This in turn helps those with a tendency to commit violent crimes to avoid “alternative activities where violence is more likely to occur." On the other hand, researchers say, numerous psychology studies suggest that violent video games increase the aggressiveness of individuals (we have only seen studies that showed aggression after playing video games to be short term, for the record). Little King's Story, a charming Pikmin-esque RPG adventure on the Wii, is perhaps one of the most under-appreciated games of this generation. Thankfully, it's still getting a follow-up despite the lack of love. Andriasang reports that a Little King's Story sequel has been announced for the PlayStation Vita in the latest issue of Famitsu. The Japanese title for the new game is The King, the Demon King, and the Seven Princesses: New King Story, but it's safe to assume that will probably be altered if new publisher Konami brings it over to North America. Actual game details from Famitsu are light right now, but so far we know that the game will have a new visual style and some sort of love/dating element. Here's hoping it makes its way to the U.S. as well. {GameInformer} The single-player game of Doom 4 runs at 30 frames per second (FPS), the multiplayer part, however, with 60 frames per second, John Carmack has confirmed. id Software Lead Engineer/designer and legend John Carmack has confirmed in a recent interview that the single-player game of Doom 4 at 30 frames per second (FPS) is running. Speaking in a video interview with PC Games at Gamescom, Newell said Valve feels gamers shouldbe able to play together no matter what platform they are using. “We never want to create these ‘islands of players’,” he said. “You have to be sensitive to control differences, and make sure you’re accommodating that, but, you know, our view is players should be able to play as part of a community on whatever device they can. “You know, sometimes there are contractual, or other issues that make that hard, where somebody, a platform holder doesn’t want you to do that for whatever reason, but our preference is always to let customers play and be part of the larger community.” CSGO is targeted for release in early 2012 and will be playable at this year’s PAX Prime and Eurogamer Expo 2011. {VG247} The E-1000 model has just one monoauraul speaker equipped, while previous models have sported dual stereo speakers. Regarding the mixed reaction to Dragon Age 2, he said “It’s interesting because the first reviews – the number of the reviews was also very polarized, awesomely so. Lots of 90+ reviews, we also got fans that I think in some cases who were expecting more Dragon Age: Origins, and there was a misalignment of expectation there." In terms of where the series is going next, Muzyka stated “What we need to do as developers is take that feedback from both sets of fans to heart and see about marrying that in future games in the Dragon Age franchise. I think that the team has actually got a great plan. I think the team is going to have some things that are going to surprise both sets of fans, both core fans and new fans with a marriage of these…the best from both games, Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2. And we look forward more to talking about that in the future.” The next installment in the Dragon Age series most likely won't be seen for a while, but fans should feel comfortable knowing BioWare is listening to feedback on their previous titles. {GameInformer}
