Playdead has announced that Limbo has now sold over one million copies worldwide in 153 countries and nine languages across three platforms. The success of the game has allowed Playdead to buy itself back from early investors, and put the extra funds towards future and current projects in development. “With the success that Limbo has achieved, we felt this was the ideal time to fully regain our independence,” said CEO Dino Patti. “We are grateful to everyone who supported us over the past few years, and look forward to forging new partnerships that will both let us reach new heights as a studio and give our director, Arnt Jensen, room to grow creatively.” The Mac version of the game is on slate for an end of the year release. {VG247} Ubisoft has hinted that if Rayman: Origins is successful enough, producer Michael Ancel will be greenlit for other projects – like the long-requested sequel to Beyond Good & Evil. “If all the people that love Beyond Good & Evil understand [Ancel] is more than a one trick pony and if Rayman: Origins does well, it gives him more leeway for other opportunities because he has to build up his studio,” Ubisoft’s Tony Key told Industry Gamers. The recent success of the original Beyond Good & Evil is helping chances of a sequel, too. “Beyond Good & Evil HD is doing very well on PSN and Xbox Live and there’s a lot of people coming back, and if they choose to do a sequel the audience is bigger than before,” Key said. Rayman: Origins is a four player co-operative platformer, expected on PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 this month. The US gets it November 15, while PAL territories have to wait until November 25. “Just like how Beyond Good & Evil had a whimsical style but included gameplay for adults, Rayman: Origins will appeal to more than just younger gamers,” Key assured potential Beyond Good & Evil 2 supporters. {VG247} Due to the ongoing launch issues with Call of Duty Elite, Activision said it will extend premium memberships by 30 days at no additional cost. "If you’re still considering becoming a premium member, we’re going to extend Founder eligibility until the end of the month, and you will also receive the additional 30 days of access," the publisher stated. An update was posted today on the official website provided the latest on Elite. Activision reaffirmed gameplay data from both Black Ops and MW3 is safely stored, and it will all be available once these issues are resolved. "Many of you are trying to get in and unfortunately, you can’t right now. You’re frustrated, we know it, and we know we need to fix it," the publisher said. "Our teams have been working non-stop to identify issues and resolve them as quickly as possible. Again, these issues have no impact on the performance of the game." {GameInformer} Sony said today it shipped 3.8 million copies of Uncharted 3 to retailers globally in the first day. The company has not provided actual sales numbers to consumers at this time, however. It's worth noting that while shipped numbers give a good indication of excitement for the game at retail, it doesn't give a full picture. Electronic Arts announced last month it shipped 10 million copies of Battlefield 3 in the first week it, yet the publisher actually sold about half of that. “Uncharted 3 is a blockbuster and these incredible sales figures reflect that," said Nick Caplin, Head of Communications at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. "Consumers are clearly as eager to play the game as critics were to heap praise upon it, and the team at Naughty Dog deserve this fantastic reception at retail." {GameInformer} The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has gone GOLD (finalized and sent out to the press for mass distribution) and I have some new info on the glorious and huge game. Community manager for Bethesda, Pete Hines mentioned that he enjoyed Oblivion more than Morrowind, and he also said that Bethesda is planning extensive post-launch support for Skyrim. You know what that means? Yes DLC. And if you don’t know, Xbox 360 gets the DLC first (timed exclusive content just like Fallout 3). “Post-launch for us is a mix of game support, dlc, next projects, vacation, and rest. Not necessarily in that order,” he revealed. Do you like gore? We can all agree that for a game like Skyrim, it brings a lot of pressure being able to annihilate your enemies in the most brutual way imaginable, right? Before I get carried away, you must know that there is no option to turn off the gore. “You cannot disable blood/gore in Skyrim. Sorry. My oldest kid is not happy he can’t play either,” Hines replied. Regarding little things like… shooting hawks from the sky, Hines hinted that it is possible under certain circumstances. He said, “Yes. No.” You are free to analyse his reply. But we believe you can shoot it. Also for those RPG gamers with ADD, you can hold on to your perks, which will allow you to save it for later when you do require it. “You can hold onto your perk points as long as you want,” he said. This is pretty much the best news to been have revealed today. I hate it when I am forced to spend my points because I absolutely dislike forced gameplay design. This is a very good news, especially when I am concerned. The game is being localised in many languages, so people from countries like Italy can get a better experience from the game. We will provide you the complete list of countries localised soon. If you want to play to stealthy, it is important that you use light armour for the game. Because using heavy armour will reveal your position. This is obvious news but it’s good to know from the people who are involved in the creation of Skyrim. “Well it’s much harder to be stealthy in Heavy, which is why I wear light and not heavy. Depends on the char you’re playing,” Hines revealed. The game will be released on November 11th for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Two months ago, Dead Island was released to the world with great reception, shipping approximately two million units in its first week of release. With success like that, a sequel seemed like the obvious decision for developers Deep Silver and Techland to make. Earlier this week, news site Siliconera noticed a trademark filed by Techland under the name "Dead World". No comments have been made by either developer, but I think that making the assumption of this being the foundation of a Dead Island sequel would not be far fetched. |
