Rockstar and Team Bondi's impressive thriller LA Noire could be set for an April 5 release in North America. That's according to several US retailers - including GameStop,GameFly and Amazon - who've all listed April 5 as the launch date. Just to be controversial, another online retailer, CD Universe, has listed an April 6 release. So far Rockstar's official line has been to expect LA Noire in "spring 2011". A second LA Noire trailer is due to be released on Monday. [CVG] As you are probably aware, Anne Hathaway was cast as Selina Kyle earlier this week in Christopher Nolan’s new Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises. Slightly buried in that news was the announcement that Tom Hardy will be playing the character Bane. Which — for non-hardcore Batman fans — led to a collective, “Tom Hardy? That’s cool, but who the eff is Bane?” So, for those not in the know — and for those who did themselves a great service and never watched 1997’sBatman & Robin — let’s take a look a five things that you probably don’t know about the other new Batman villain, Bane. Bane’s Depiction in Batman & Robin was Complete Rubbish OK, granted, this whole film is rubbish (yes, this is a movie that cast Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl), but it’s a shame that a character as interesting as Bane was so completely mishandled. In this awful, awful version, a fairly pedestrian criminal is forced to serve as a guinea pig for an experimental drug called Venom. The drug transforms him into a Bane that has no intelligence whatsoever, and basically just follows the commands of Uma Thurman’s Poison Ivy. Robert “Jeep” Swenson (a former professional wrestler), played Bane in the film, and unfortunately died of heart failure two months after its release. (According to Wikipedia, Hulk Hogan and James Caan gave the eulogies. Nowthat’s a couple of eulogies that I would liked to have seen.) With all due respect to the late Swenson, it’s a shame that such an interesting character is only widely known for this version. Expect Nolan to drastically change the perception, but in the meantime, here’s clip from the film of Bane dressed in a monkey costume. Seriously. Bane, Surprisingly, is Quite Intelligent Most people who know Bane unfortunately know him from the aforementionedBatman & Robin. And, yes, if that’s you’re only knowledge of Bane, it’s understandable that you may find his choice as a Batman villain in a new film, well, peculiar. And if that’s all you know about Bane, you know that he’s very strong. But in the comics, Bane is also considered one of Batman’s most intelligent and mentally stable adversaries — hence a charismatic actor like Hardy being cast as opposed to an ex-professional wrestler. Bane Received a Pretty Raw Deal by the Judicial System OK, this is actually pretty humorous on the surface (well, that is until it happens to you!): Bane’s father was basically the Che Guevara of the fictional country of Santa Prisca. His father escaped persecution so the government basically said, “Hey, you there, young Bane… you’re going to serve your father’s life sentence. Is that cool?” So, Bane grew up in prison and, with his spare time, educated himself, worked out a lot and developed a fairly understandable grudge. Bane Also Received a Pretty Raw Deal from the Prison Not content on just keeping an innocent man in prison for his entire life, the prison decided to also test a drug called Venom on Bane. (Note: never trust any physician trying to give you a drug that’s called “Venom.”) The drug, which had killed all prior test subjects, gave Bane super-human strength, but there was a catch: He needed to have Venom supplied directly to his brain every 12 hours (that’s what all the fun tubes on his costume are for). Bane Savagely Defeated Batman In an arc of the Batman comic book known as “Knightfall” that began in 1993, Bane — having escaped prison — travels to Gotham City in an effort to defeat Batman. Bane earns his reputation as highly intelligent by discovering Batman’s secret identity. After manipulating battle after battle between Batman and his long list of enemies, Bane finally confronts a tired Bruce Wayne at his home and, in the process, literally snaps Wayne’s back over his knee. This injury is severe enough that it actually forces Wayne to temporarily retire as Batman. It remains to be seen if this arc (hopefully) will be interjected into The Dark Knight Rises. (If it does get used, um, spoiler alert?) [MovieLine] Its lacks some luster but with so much imagery in this series who needs another picture of Stewart, Pattinson, or Lautner?
Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle (AKA Catwoman) in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. She will be starring alongside Christian Bale, who returns in the title role of Bruce Wayne/Batman.
Christopher Nolan stated, "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story." In addition, Tom Hardy has been set to play Bane. Nolan said, "I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies." Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven. The Dark Knight Rises is slated for release on July 20, 2012. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company. [ComingSoon.net] This news actually makes me depressed because it was rumoured that Mickey Rourke was going to be The Iceman...and in my eyes that would be perfect. But hollywood and I dont see eye to eye. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Shannon, Benicio Del Toro and James Franco will be starring in The Iceman, it was announced today in a joint statement made by Millennium Films and Bleiberg Entertainment. Ariel Vromen (Danika, Rx) is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Morgan Land (Rx, The Point of No Return), based on the book "The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer" by Anthony Bruno and on interview footage from the documentary "The Iceman Tapes: Conversations with a Killer" by Jim Thebaut. Ehud Bleiberg is producing the film. Millennium Films' Danny Dimbort, Trevor Short, Avi Lerner and Boaz Davidson are executive producing with Untitled Entertainment's Laura Rister. Rabbit Bandini's Miles Levy and Vince Jolivette are also executive producers. Bleiberg Entertainment's Nicholas Donnermeyer will be associate producer. Nu Image, Inc., Millennium Films' parent company, will handle worldwide sales. The Iceman is the electrifying true story of Richard Kuklinski (Shannon), a notorious mob contract killer and loving family man. He earned his nickname by freezing the bodies of his victims, disguising the time of death, and throwing police off-track. He was a man who used his tendencies toward violence and detachment from consequence to create an idyllic family life. His family and neighbors believed he was an average businessman, having no idea about his deadly alternate life. Kuklinski killed over one hundred people during his life. He never felt remorse for anything he had done, except hurting his family. Del Toro co-stars as Kuklinski’s employer, the notorious mobster Roy Demeo, and Franco plays his mentor assassin known as Mr. Softee. "Our film is going to be fantastic. The story is riveting, the cast perfect, and all being directed by the talents of Ariel Vromen. We are pleased to be working with Bleiberg Entertainment," says Nu Image/Millennium's Avi Lerner. Ariel Vromen comments, "I am honored to work with such a talented cast on such a compelling story. Since the early stages of development I had the dream of casting Michael Shannon as Kuklinski, as I believe there's no one else that can play this part better than him." "Richard Kuklinski is a remarkably vivid, imminently watchable character, as was evident from the real-life footage of him. I'm looking forward to working with Avi, Danny, Trevor, and Boaz on this film; Ariel is a tremendously talented young filmmaker who has poured his heart into this project and has a strong, artistic vision," remarks Ehud Bleiberg. [ComingSoon.net] It would seem that Modern Warfare 3 was inevitable and its release was leaked for November of 2011. Everyone should know that Infinity Ward's Ex-Executives Jason West and Vince Zampella are no longer with the company. They were fired by EA along with many other employees on grounds of insubordination and sabotage. With a lawsuit still waging over what really happened EA and Infinity Ward are still working hard on the Call of Duty Franchise. Modern Warfare 3 is set to have Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games working on the Single Player Story, and Raven Softworks meddling with the multiplayer. Sledgehammer games is also working on a Call of Duty "Adventure" game that was supposed to come out later this year but the project is being pushed back says EA. This shows that the term "Modern Warfare" is closely becoming a trademark to EA and Infinity Ward. This was rumored around the time Modern Warfare 2 was being released when some box art showed the "Call of Duty" moniker with Modern Warfare 2 in bold...while other only showed "Modern Warfare 2." The game was finalized with the Call of Duty franchise name for fear that gamers wouldn't know it was a COD game. With three studios vying for power and $$$ over this new installment in the series it begs the question; is Call of Duty becoming another Halo? or is EA trying to milk everything they can from this sacred FPS series? Supremacy MMA touts a motto of "unlicensed, unrestricted and uncompromising," meaning brutal combat and graphic content is part of the game's no-holds barred presentation. But with gameplay rooted more in arcade fighters than sports, should it also add "unrealistic"?
Supremacy MMA, on Xbox 360 and PS3, is due for a May or June release and will be published by 505 Games, which published the unlicensed football title Backbreaker at the same time last year. [Kotaku] |
