The Nintendo Wii sold 86.01 million units on a consolidated shipment basis between its launch in 2006 and the end of March 2011. That huge number sparked many rumors that Nintendo would capitalize and create a new console. The rumor of a new console from Nintendo is confirmed, and will be unveiled at E32011, but a lot of details are either vague or unknown. "Project Cafe" is the codename for Nintendo's secret next generation console that is hyped to bring a new wave of gaming to the masses. Promises promises promises. Many pictures of an alleged Wii II are flooding forums and websites and most of them look very similar. The picture on the left was one of the first leaked images from an unknown source that shows a blurry hard-drive looking piece of tech. "Nintendo" is branded into the side, 3 LED lights on the front (Blue, Red, Green), and not much else. The ad boasts, "Project Cafe' is simply the most developer friendly SDK the industry has ever seen. Deliver unparalleled next generation performance at current generation costs. It doesn't get any easier than this." Here is where I dissect this image. The description goes on to say, "easy portability from PC, Xbox 360." That doesn't sound like a new console that sounds like a portable and transferable data center. "anytime live update past/post release." Internet seems to be a necessity. "intergrated ??-Live framework." Could be a new updated internet service from Nintendo. The image on the right seems to be the same piece of futuristic tech shown in the previous ad above only not blurry and grainy. Notice the "Nintendo" stamp, the LEDs (which now seem to show four colors; blue, yellow, green, and maybe a fourth). The left side shows the left profile of the device and the right side shows off the right profile. No ports are visible in these photos as well as no buttons, which tends to boggle the mind of any on-looker. NOTE- the ad above and the picture to the right have not been acknowledged or confirmed by Nintendo. Their digital lips are sealed until E32011. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata is quoted in a Reuters article, saying, "We would like to propose a new approach to home video game consoles." This new approach, as you might expect, does not necessarily include 3D displays. "It's difficult to make 3-D images a key feature, because 3-D televisions haven't obtained wide acceptance yet," he said. E32011 goes live on June 7-9, 2011. He dropped the news today while responding to a volley of questions during an event in London. New rumors have also surfaced regarding the console’s release date, pricing, and hardware specs. Miyamoto Speaks According to Edge, after asking his interrogators to discontinue questioning, Miyamoto said “Even when the Wii launched we were developing new hardware, work on 3DS had already started. It’s a matter of when we announce it.” When asked whether the new Nintendo console would be announced at this E3, he said “Please wait. Be patient until we decide.” Shigeru Miyamoto's confirmation has the Game Informer office excited. Now we’re just waiting for more info, but not patiently. New Hearsay IGN's source revealed a few more pieces of info about the mysterious Nintendo console. Price: $350-$400 Earliest Launch Window: Somewhere between mid-October and November GPU: AMD R700 (more powerful than PS3) Design: Size of original Xbox, looks like modern SNES Resolution: 1080p, Stereoscopic 3D-enabled Those are the basic “facts.” For more analysis, you can check out the original article here. How are you receiving Miyamoto’s confirmation? Do any of the system’s rumored details entice you? Do you think the final product will resemble anything that’s been speculated? Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to run around the block until my heart slows down from all this excitement. {GameInformer} {posted by Will} Nintendo icon Shigeru Miyamoto recently vowed to release Super Mario 3DS this year, and now he's revealed a couple more details, including talk of that tail in the logo. Edge spoke with Miyamoto at the same London event and gleaned some interesting info. “It’s a combination of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario on N64. It won’t convey the message if I talk to you today, but if you play it at E3 that will give you more understanding of what I’m talking about," Miyamoto says. And that mysterious tail? “The tail you mentioned on the logo – it’s what you think it is. You probably know what’s going to happen using that character," he says. Raccoon tail flying confirmed! Now if only it were the awesome yellow cape from Super Mario World, which is far better than Super Mario Bros. 3. {GameInformer} Peter Jackson has posted the first video from the set of The Hobbit films. Opening in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D in December 2012 and December 2013, the two films stars Andy Serkis, Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Rob Kazinsky, Aidan Turner, Graham McTavish, John Callen, Stephen Hunter, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, James Nesbitt, Adam Brown, Cate Blanchett, Ken Stott, Sylvester McCoy, Mikael Persbrandt, Ryan Gage, Jed Brophy, William Kircher, Saoirse Ronan, Elijah Wood and Bret McKenzie. NeverDead is a third-person action game set in a fantasy and horror-influenced universe where supernatural battles between humans and extraordinary creatures blanket a vast city landscape. Gamers wield a butterfly design-inspired sword and an arsenal of guns to decimate waves of ungodly enemies in the not-too-distant future.
Its release is TBA. SSX (Previously Deadly Descents) is slated for a January 2012 release on both 360 and PS3.
