Actress Zooey Deschanel may have been offered the part of Betty Bryant in the next "Spider-Man," according to a rumor reported by Showbiz Spy. In the original "Spider-Man" comics, Betty was one of Peter Parker's earliest love interests prior to the introduction of Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson. Betty was also the primary assistant of Daily Bugle editor, J. Jonah Jameson.

If the rumor pans out, it would reunite Deschanel with her "(500) Days of Summer" director, Marc Webb.

Last week, word broke that Martin Sheen was in final negotiations to join the "Spider-Man" cast as Uncle Ben, while Sally Field was in early discussions to play Aunt May.

Andrew Garfield is set to lead the franchise as the new Peter Parker/Spider-Man, with Stone as Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans will portray the currently unconfirmed villain.

The new "Spider-Man" will begin filming next month and will be released in 3D on July 3, 2012.
