It's the first day of December, and people across the globe are preparing themselves for holiday festivities. Why not get yourself in the spirit of the season with a few selections from today's PSN update, like Dead Nation? Oh, no, wait. That won't do. What about that demo for CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: Fatal Conspiracy? Hm, that's not particularly cheerful either, is it? How about you blow up some more dudes in new in interesting ways with that Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage DLC? This ... this is going to be a weird month.

{posted by Will} More news is coming out about the PSP2, although Sony is the only one not saying a word about the device yet. A patent application from the company gives even more credence to the rumor that the handheld will have a touch pad on the back of the unit. The application, uncovered by akihabaranews, is for a "Hand-held Device With Two-Finger Touch Triggered Selection And Transformation Of Active Elements" [sic] and it would let you operate what you see on the screen via a two-fingered touch pad on the backside of the device. While this may take a little getting used to for the user, it means you'll no longer have your giant mitts obscuring the screen when you have to select or control something on it. You also won't be getting your dirty candy hands on the front screen either, which we hear is a full inch bigger than the current PSP screen. {Source: GameInformer} My Thoughts: Enough with the rumors, just releasethe damn thing! {posted by Will} Are you interested in hearing what Double Fine has to say about sequels to games like Brutal Legend, Psychonauts, Grim Fandango, and more? We've got the skinny on what games the developer would love to make sequels for, and the ones they couldn't make follow ups for if they wanted to. The info comes from a recent post on the FAQ section of Double Fine's website. In response to the burning question of impending Psychonauts or Brütal Legend sequels, Double Fine said, "Not right now, but we’d love to someday. If anyone out there has a few million dollars burning a hole in their pocket, and would like to help us make an excellent sequel, please let us know" You've probably heard of the previous two games, but you may not know about other favorites fans want sequels for. Regarding development on sequels for Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, and Day of the Tentacle, Double Fine said, "That would be fun, but we don’t own the rights to any of those games, so we can’t. Instead, we have to make up our own new stuff. Which is awesome." We can deal with Tim Schafer and company focusing on making awesome new titles. Keep the good times rolling, Double Fine. {Source: GameInformer} My Toughts: PLEASE, SOMEONE, GIVE THEM THE MONEY FOR PSYCHONAUTS 2! It turns out those sneaky developers at Treyarch inserted a secret message into Black Ops, using two separate encryption methods to hide the code in each of the level's mission briefings. Didn't even know there was a code you should be cracking? That's alright: someone already figured it out. Check out what the message says after the jump.
YouTube user 01MaverickTen10 posted a video explanation of the code that makes him sound like a straight-up crazy person, but the message is actually pretty intriguing. You can watch his video below, but the main gist is that there are two messages in the mission briefing. The first code uses the designate word of each mission, which is always one of the terms from the NATO alphabet (Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, etc.). The second half of the message comes from each mission's transmission code, which gets converted to its corresponding letter in the alphabet. So what does the message say? Skip the next sentence if you can't handle the truth! Spoiler Alert: "Reznov is dead. Or is he dead? There was no body. Is he who he says he is?" I haven't even played Black Ops yet, and my mind is officially blown! Check out the video below for more information on how to find the message yourself. Having a buddy at your side makes all the difference, doubly so when your wingman is a character who can carry a scene on his or her own. The five people, aliens, robots, rodents and pigs on this list are the best companions we've seen in the last decade of gaming. 5. Daxter (Jak & Daxter series) Sometimes you have to give props for execution, even if it's in service to a trope we've all seen a million times. Daxter is a tough-talking wiseguy whose mouth is constantly writing checks his behind can't cash. He's also a unwaveringly loyal, devoted companion to Jak through thick and thin – and a good thing, too, because Daxter carries about 90 percent of the duo's personality in his furry little hide. Much of what elevates the series above the huge herd of 3D platformers of its time is the story. In turn, the story depends heavily both on Daxter's antics to keep things fresh and his emotional reactions to the sometimes-bleak situations in which he and Jak find themselves. Without Daxter, Jak may as well have been Blinx the Time Sweeper. {posted by Will} I just posted a story about Microsoft's solid Black Friday deals a couple of hours ago, but PS3 and PSP owners shouldn't feel left out. Sony is going to be giving up some similarly enticing price cuts for the holiday. Topping the list are some PSP offerings: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and Dante's Inferno for a mere $19.99. Dissidia: Final Fantasy and Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake will be available for only $9.99, and Groovin' Blocks will be on sale for $4.99. Keep in mind that these are for the PlayStation Network downloadable versions of these titles; retail prices may not match these cuts. In terms of regular PSN titles, Joe Danger, DeathSpank, Gundemonium Collection, and Top Gun will all have their normal $14.99 price tags cut in half to $7.49. PixelJunk Racers 2nd Lap will also be available at half-price -- $3.49. Finally, even the already cheap PlayStation Minis will be getting reduced pricing. Field Runners will drop to $3.49, Monopoly, Hero of Sparta, and Young Thor will hang out at $2.49, and Alien Zombie Death will be a paltry $1.99. This sale will begin tomorrow, November 23, and all the prices listed should be available until next Monday, November 29. Personally, I'm going to take this opportunity to finally pick up Joe Danger, since I somehow missed out on it this summer. What are you going to check out? {Source: GameInformer} Okay, gang. We've seen what the other, non-video game-oriented retailers will have to offer next week during the holiday shopocalypse known as Black Friday -- now let's see what the big dog has to show. GameStop's catalog of doorbusters and all-day deals recently arrived online, detailing the post-Thanksgiving bundles, discounts and freebies being offered by the ludological retailer. There's a lot to soak in, but here's some highlights. Check out a scan of GameStop's full list of offers in the gallery below!
{posted by Will} Portal 2 coming to the PlayStation 3 with Steam support was Valve's big E3 surprise earlier this year. It wasn't, to most gamers' dismay, the reveal of Half-Life 3 or even Half-Life 2: Episode 3. Hang tight, because there are more surprises in store. Three of 'em. "I can guarantee you people are going to be surprised at stuff we do," Valve's Gabe Newell told PC Gamer. "That isn't going to stop any time soon. I'm just laughing because … people will be shocked again." "We have three pretty big surprises in the next 12 months at least," he adds. Valve has recently trademarked Defense of the Ancients, prompting speculation that an updated version of the real-time strategy games is imminent. And one has to wonder what Gordan Freeman has been up to these days… {Source: Destructoid} My Thoughts: :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D {posted by Will} Valve has just announced that Portal 2 will now be coming out the week of April 18, 2011 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. For reals this time. The game was pushed back by two months and marks the "shortest delay in Valve history." The e-mail release was short, but in classic Valve fashion, is pretty hilarious. Check it out after the fold. Still no word on the longest delay of any news on a game people are dying for, Half-Life 3. Valve today announced that Portal 2 -- the sequel to the ground-breaking title that won over 30 game of the year awards, despite missing its original ship date -- will now be available the week of April 18th, 2011. This two month slip not only marks the shortest delay in Valve's proud tradition of delays, it represents the approaching convergence of Valve Time and Real Time. Though this convergence spells doom for humanity, it will not affect the new Portal 2 release date. {Source: Destructoid} My Thoughts: Really doesn't surprise me that such an anticipated game is being delayed. Isn't that how it works nowadays? |
