Disney CEO Bog Iger (awesome name) recently mentioned the company’s interest in expanding the Star Wars franchise to include series featured on their network, but did not explicitly mention The Clone Wars. As one of the highest-rated shows on the network, Star Wars: The Clone Wars ranked No. 1 in its time period among boys 9-14 in October and posted double-digit gains across kids and boys vs. last year — kids 2-11 grew by 46 percent, kids 6-11 by 34 percent, kids 9-14 by 64 percent, boys 2-11 by 45 percent, boys 6-11 by 36 percent and boys 9-14 by 72 percent, via Turner.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars has also aired on TNT and Adult Swim (on Cartoon Network) and Turner retains rights to some 100 reruns, but the current agreement only lasts through 2013. Turner’s sister company, Warner Bros., has been distributing the Star Wars: The Clone Wars DVDs/Blu-rays, but this is another facet that may soon move to Disney’s distribution.
