I was starting to wonder when Stoker, the English-language debut from Oldboy director Chan-wook Park, would get released. The film went in front of cameras last September, and we haven’t heard anything about it since. Today, Box Office Mojo reports that Stoker will open March 1, 2013. The plot centers on a young girl (Mia Wasikowska) who encounters her mysterious uncle (Matthew Goode) while mourning her death of her father (Dermot Mulroney). The impressive cast also includes Nicole Kidman, Jackie Weaver, Lucas Till, and Alden Ehrenreich. Its been said that the movie could be described as a horror, a thriller, a drama, or a combination of all three, so it will be interesting to see how Fox Searchlight plans to sell it.

There are a lot of movies being made. So many in-fact that most publishers hire certain analysts to record demographic traits and pay close attention to popularity and trends to release at the best and most opportune
time. I was curious how much money was actually being thrown at these projects so did a little bit of research and math. All of this data is according to todays date of 07/15/2012. Now with "The Avengers" accumulating more than $1,457,648,000 it has become one the highest grossing films ever. It's budget was close to $200 million. An average budget for a film nowadays is around $150 million. So what I did was take the slated movies from Wikipedia, multiplied the total by $150M, and came up with a yearly cost to make films. If money fascinates you just think for a moment; these totals are estimated, but the profit is unaccounted for. If The Avengers made over NINE TIMES its budget just imagine what huge films like The Hobbit, Pacific Rim, Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Wolverine can make. 207 films of 2012 $310,050,000,000 85 films of 2013 $12,750,000,000 19 films of 2014 $2,850,000,000 3 films of 2015 $450,000,000 That's a grand total of $326,100,000,000 spent on film budget. Three Hundred Twenty Six Billion One Hundred Million Dollars. Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is looking mighty fine and unpleasant but, alas, you'll have to wait a while longer to play it. Previously due this fall, it's now expected in early 2013.
"The quality of the game is the absolute first, last, and always with this development, and we felt it could do with a few more months' work to make sure that's really going to happen," creative director Dan Pinchbeck told GameZone. Which is fair enough. Briefly listed, then quickly replaced, was a billboard on Electronic Arts' own Origin store saying that a preorder for Medal of Honor: Warfighter included "exclusive Battlefield 4 Beta Access."
It's not mindblowing that there would be a Battlefield 4—the president of EA Labels, Frank Gibeau, himself referred to Battlefield 4 as far back as November. But the game has yet to be announced, though its turn in the cycle is probably coming in 2013. The beta access is more interesting to me, though it will likely be offered sometime next year, not this. A listing on Microsoft's online store that has since disappeared, featured a pre-order for a special edition Halo 4 Xbox 360 console. The system features a 320 GB HDD, two matching controllers, special start-up and shut-down sound effects, blue lights on the console and controllers instead of green, a black headset, a copy of the game, and a number of downloadables including an armor skin, weapon skin, emblem, avatar armor, and an avatar prop. The system, when the listing was active, was selling for $399.99. I'm sure we will get an official announcement from Microsoft soon, so keep an eye out. Here's an exerpt from kickstarter.com: "Have at it: It's easy to root (and rooting won't void your warranty). Everything opens with standard screws. Hardware hackers can create their own peripherals, and connect via USB or Bluetooth. You want our hardware design? Let us know. We might just give it to you. Surprise us!" Lastly a message straight from Ouya's developer Kickstarter: "All we need is you. With your help, we need to: Convert our prototype to production-ready models and get all the regulatory approvals (yeah, we need these to sell them) Deliver developer kits (for early developers so we can have games on day one, though every console will include an SDK once we launch) Place our first production orders (we are working with a manufacturing firm with lots of game hardware experience, but we need to know how many to make!) Ideally, fund some initial game development (i.e., 1st-party games) And if you’re international, we want your help too…gaming is global, and we will get you OUYA. We still have a lot to figure out in regards to rights and countries, but it can be done. Look what we've accomplished already! Show the world, through your numbers, that you're out there. Show them you're ready to level the playing field. Enlist others. The more we raise, the more we can do. OUYA: THE REVOLUTION WILL BE TELEVISED" Iko Uwais – the ass-kicking star of The Raid – has landed his highest profile gig yet: a role in Keanu Reeves’ directorial debut.

One feature absent from Grand Theft Auto 4 was planes. Sure, you could ride around in a helicopter--but that just isn't the same! A new Q&A with Rockstar Games reveals that player-controllable planes were intentionally removed from the game because the world of Liberty City was simply "not big enough for planes to work properly."
"The city was simply too small for effective and enjoyable flying," the Q&A explains. "It was the first time we made a high definition open world, and it was a massive amount of work to make something on that scale." But, the ability to control more flying vehicles will return in Grand Theft Auto 5. "Fear not, they are returning in what is our biggest open world game to date," the post teases. At a Fortnite panel during San Diego Comic Con, Epic Games revealed some massive news about their upcoming PC-exclusive game. Firstly, yeah, PC-exclusive - Epic wants to keep updating it with new content regularly, and said that PC is just better for that.
Second, and possibly more massive, is the news that it'll be running on Unreal Engine 4. In fact, it'll be the first UE4 game. Some images and videos were shown off, and definitely showed a nice visual leap from the current generation. |
