While the vault hunters of the first Borderlands may not have featured much in the way of narration, it definitely mattered which of them you picked. Each class came with a different play-style and skill tree, from the proficient sniper Mordecai to the heavy weaponry and brutal melee attacks of Brick. Borderlands 2 will place players in the shoes of four new characters, and Gearbox revealed one of them to us during our recent cover trip. Salvador belongs to the new Gunzerker class, and all signs point to him being a versatile and entertaining character selection. From out of left field, a rumor starting brewing yesterday of a brand new Valve title. According to game testers, a new Counter-Strike game was being developed by the world renowned company and set for an early 2012 release. Valve was asked for a comment from multiple gaming news sites, and finally confirmed the title. Releasing on PlayStation Newtork, Xbox Live, and PC, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive WILL be released in early 2012. CS:GO will expand on the tracks laid down by CS:Source by adding new guns, new and revamped maps, and will run on an improved version of Valve It's a bit vexing that, instead of being discussed for being what looks to be a real step forward in the military shooter genre, all talk regarding EA's Battlefield 3 seems to revolve around the company's plan to use it to push its EA Original digital distribution and social networking service. While the game will be available both at retail and at other digital retails -- except, notably Valve's popular Steam -- EA has now confirmed that players will be requiring that players install Origin on their PCs to play Battlefield 3, even if they bought a boxed copy at retail. The news was confirmed by Battlefield community manager Daniel Matros via his Twitter account. Ironically, this tactic is something EA actually copied from Valve and Steam, which has been requiring Steam installs for its PC games since Half-Life 2. {Source: GameInformer} A month and a half has passed since the cult-classic game, Duke Nukem Forever, hit stores. While critics bashed it, gamers praised this game that took 15 years to develop. Due to the great fan reception, 2K Games and Gearbox Software are releasing a DLC pack entitled "Hail To The Icons Parody Pack". This add-on comes packed with four new maps, three new modes, and a few new weapons. The new maps being released are as follows: •Call of Duke- A modern day cityscape, poking fun at the popular Modern Warfare series. This map features a new weapon named the n00b t00b, which is just a fancy term for a grenade launcher. •2Forts1Bridge- A Team Fortress 2-esque map, which features a brand new minigun, a nod at the iconic character for Team Fortress. •Inferno- Duke gets some 16-bit history thrown on him as he's put into a map full of lava and teleporters. •Sandbox- Players take to the sand while they battle as Mini-Duke inside a playground sandbox. Two bases are setup on either side, constructed of children's toys. This map features the last of the new weapons, the sticky grenades! The mail-order online game rental service GameFly announced today that it will be offering subscribers unlimited play of PC games through a new digital client. "We're thrilled to bring digital to the gaming consumer in a meaningful way, as no other service or retailer brings physical and digital gaming together like GameFly," said Sean Spector, GameFly co-founder. "With a library of over 9,500 titles from over 300 first- and third-party publishers, GameFly members have the ultimate choice of how, what, when and where they game." Over 1,500 Windows and Mac PC titles will be available. The new GameFly desktop client will also allow players to view trailers, videos, and screenshots of games as well as manage their queue of disc-based console games. Players will reveal secrets, and escalate mysteries of the Borderlands universe as they adventure across the unexplored new areas of Pandora.
