There's a fad going around in Hollywood of films taking a turn to darker emotions and settings. "Gritty," "Grimmy," "Graphic," and "Edgy" are some of the words used to promote new films like The Dark Knight and it's threequel ender The Dark Knight Rises.

At the Comic-Con panel for Mortal Kombat Legacy Michael Jai White, Jax from the web-series and original Spawn, expressed his interest in the film and talked about how he wanted the film to take from the comics more and to give fans the blood and gore they want.

"I hope he[Todd McFarlane] does [make the film]. In the next couple years I might have to produce it myself. It’s a no-brainer. Look at how these movies have done, superhero movies that have gone dark, and there hasn’t been one darker than Spawn. If we do it like we want to, it could be a game changer.

I think Todd feels the same way as me – that we go R. Not a kinder, gentler Spawn, we go straight R – like pushing it, pushing NC-17. Give the fans what they expect. That edge brought [the comic book] to where it is. I would really like to show what that character can be,” he said.

One of the biggest roles Samuel L. Jackson has had in the past ten years wasn’t in a film, but in the animated show Afro Samurai. The title itself tells you most of what you need to know about the series, which is based on a manga of the same name by Takashi Okazaki. Following a samurai who avenges the death of his father in a futuristic (yet feudal) Japan, it was made up of a five-episode miniseries, which also spawned the made-for-TV animated film, Afro Samurai: Resurrection.

Samuel L says he might not star but this is one of his favorite properties and he already has a production crew and now all he needs is a writer and director. We'll follow this as it continues.

The ninth and final episode of Kevin Tancharoen's short web series is being shown at Comic Con 2011.

Why the long wait from episode 8?

The final episode needed some extra time to perfect the "special effects" for two of Mortal Kombat's most favorited characters; Sektor and Cyrax (seen to the left).
