Deadline reports that up-and-coming 28 year old actor Benjamin Walker has landed the lead role in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, that awesome new adaptation of Seth Graham-Smith's novel that's being directed by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted). Walker appeared inFlags of Our Fathers, All Saints Day and Coach, and was in the running for Hank McCoy in X-Men: First Class, but it looks like this will be his breakout role. He beat others like Eric Bana, Adrien Brody, Oliver Jackson-Cohen & Josh Lucas. [FirstShowing.net] The Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter story kicks off with the revelation that Lincoln's mother was killed by a supernatural creature, which fueled his passion to crush vampires and their slave-owning helpers. The book depicts the 16th US president as an axe-throwing highly trained vampire killer. With shooting already set to start later this year and a June 22nd, 2012 release date from 20th Century Fox we should expect to hear more about this adaptation and more casting as Bekmambetov continues work in pre-production.
